Muslims are never out of the news. Bombs go off in Baghdad, wars kick off in Gaza, and terror plots are uncovered in Europe. The common reaction is that Muslims are more violent than others. Samuel Huntington famously said that Islam has bloody borders, but it struck me the other day that this was a misleading impression. There are about as many Hindus in the world as Muslims, but they are geographically concentrated. There is no cause for them to beef with other religions. The only way to elicit a reaction from them is to poke around India. And when you step on their toes, the Hindu response looks like the 2002 Gujurat masscare. Now that's what a pogrom looks like.
You seldom hear a peep out of Sikhs, but these guys were blowing up planes before Mohammed Atta was a bundle of joy in his father's arms like the 1982 Air India Flight and assassinating Indian prime ministers, but again their demographic concentration keeps them out of Western consciousness.
However Muslims are so dispersed continentally that sooner or later you're going to run into them.
Jared Diamond is correct after all. Geography is destiny.

Islam adores violence. For goodness sake, it's got the word slam right there in its name. What more do you want?

Yes mate, but there aren't hordes of Sikhs and Hindus baying for the blood of cartoonists now are there?? You're right. They don't riot over cartoons. That's such an insignificant thing to fuss over. They reserve their violence for stage plays: A Birmingham theatre has condemned a violent demonstration against a play which has angered the Sikh community.
Several police officers were hurt and two people were arrested during the protest against Behzti - a play about sex abuse and murder in a Sikh temple.
Hundreds of Sikhs gathered outside Birmingham Repertory Theatre and a few tried to storm their way in, forcing Saturday's show to be halted. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/4109315.stmThe female playwright right had to go into hiding after depicting lurid scenes in a Sikh temple, but few of the people who pretend that Salman Rushdie was the only author ever to get his life threatened know the name of Gurpreet Kaur Bhatt: Threats of abduction and murder last night drove a playwright into hiding, hours after her controversial drama was axed due to violent protests by members of the Sikh community. Friends of Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti said she had fled her home and warned "mob rule" was endangering freedom of expression. Ms Bhatti, who is herself Sikh, has declined to comment, but friends hit back on her behalf after nearly 48 hours of silence from her side.
"She has been threatened with murder and told to go into hiding by the police. She is personally paying a high price," said Shakila Taranum Mann, a filmmaker. "She feels this is an attempt to censor her. It is mob rule." www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2004/dec/21/religion.arts

Oh please, you hunt for a lone example of otherwise moderate religions and expect to draw a facile moral parity. That's bullshit. Religion is stupid, all of them, but Islam is head and shoulders above its rivals in the carnage it wreaks. Sam Harris is correct. Muslims are the most retrograde of all faith heads now living.

Lone example? My dog is laughing. What the hell do you call this. It's called hundreds of Sikhs smashing up property for selling booze and meat is what it's called. Your ignorance of these "moderate religions" is comical if not surprising. It's those who shout the loudest about the Muslamics who are the most mentally defective. And do you mean this Sam Harris? Yeah, he got decimated and trashed by Robert Pape. Falling back on that pro-Israel charlatan and mouthpiece for American war crimes is about as credible as citing the authority of Rosie O'Donnell on nutrition. Love Rosie, but slender she is not.

I've met your kind before. Useful idiots for Islam. Defending the cult that would behead you at the drop of a hat. No one denies that all religions misbehave. But only a cretin would pretend that Islam is misunderstood.

Primitive, you're big on insults my peach but light on data. The only valuable contribution you've made to this thread is this classic one liner that shall echo through the ages long after the rest of your hotheaded eruptions are justly forgotten:
"Islam adores violence. For goodness sake, it's got the word slam right there in its name."

I think some young Asian lads gave our Primitive a good seeing to in the back alleys of the hood. Can't shake the fear since.

There was an awful massacre in 1984 against Sikhs by Hindus after the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Thousands dead. Communal tensions exists everywhere among all religions, but you are right, the more geographically isolated one is, the less likely to be troubled.

Geography is destiny you say... Perhaps, but didn't Islam create it's own geography. Is it not ordered so in Koran to conquer the earth fi sabeel illah? Maybe our newest member 'quran' will correct me. In any case geography of islam can be compared to that of christianity. Both cults seek to convert us all. So comparing Mo's legacy to Sikhs or Hindu's is a case of apples and bananas. Compare to christianity Shaytan, like tides of the see, no one can explain why one is peaceful and the other bloodthirsty.
